HPR Training with Stevie Allerton

There are no current plans for more Stevie training days in 2022

Stevie is a well loved and recommended HPR trainer. She has worked, trialled and tested GSPs over the years and now is often seen judging field trials and training people and their dogs.

We ran a training day for the first time with Stevie last year for young large munsterlanders and it was a massive success, with lots learnt, for both dogs and owners. This day sold out within minutes of it being advertised and because of this we are giving you two days this year at two different locations. The day is aimed at those with young dogs or those who are wanting to get into training.

Please note: These days are ONLY for large munsterlanders. If we don’t fill the spaces by two weeks before the training date then they will be opened up to other HPR breeds.

Novice Training Day for Large Munsterlanders

Time: Arrive 9:30am for 10am start

Trainer:  Stevie Allerton

Date: 14th May & 31st July 2022

Location: Stanford on Soar, Leicestershire & Chesterfield, Derbyshire

Thank you for taking interest in a training day for novice Large Munsterlanders. I have organised this training day for those people wanting to get into working their dog as an HPR, whether that is to work them on a shoot or just for fun. Stevie is expecting real novice dogs so please don’t worry if you haven’t done anything like this before.

There will be a maximum of 8 dogs on the day and all of them should be Large Munsterlanders who are starting out/novices. If the places aren’t filled to cover costs, then they will be opened to other HPR breeds but as we sold out very quickly last year, I am hoping it will be all munsters again!

We plan to cover the basics; this will be heelwork and stop whistle. We will also introduce you and your dogs to retrieving and hunting, both in fields and woodland. There maybe access to birds for steadiness at Leicestershire and there is water for swimming at Derbyshire.

Dogs aged 6 months and over are welcome to come but please be aware it is a long day for puppies. If you feel your dog needs some time out then you are more than welcome to put them in the car for a rest whilst you watch others. These days do take a lot out of you and your dogs so just be aware that for younger dogs a whole day might be a hard work.

Please note that the amount of retrieves you do will depend on the number and level of the dogs. A massive part of these training days are the waiting around as feedback will be given to each attendee individually. This is very normal for gundog training days and though it can seem boring, it does a lot to teach dogs to settle whilst other dogs work and is very much part of the day.

There are two days this year because there was so much demand last year and people also wanted a second day. You are welcome to book on to both days if you want as they are two different locations with different ground to train on.

Places will be booked first come, first served. A waiting list will be started if demand is high enough.
